Within clubs in Wales girls can play mixed rugby up to and including U11s. After which point, the rugby pathway goes into a single sex pathway. However, the WRU understand young girls who are new to rugby may not want to join a traditional mixed gender rugby team to start their rugby journey. Therefore, The WRU Girls Hubs provide a girls only opportunity to play from U8 to the adult game.
In the WRU Girls Hub, girls play in the following age bandings:
- U8s – Year 2 and Year 3
- U10s – Year 4 & Year 5
- U12s – Year 6 & Year 7
- U14s – Year 8 & Year 9
- U16s – Year 10 & Year 11
- U18s – Year 12 & Year 13
WRU Girls hubs provide a great opportunity to play social and competitive rugby, and also provide an additional offering to those in mixed settings with the use of dual registration.
There are currently 40 WRU Girls Hubs Nationally, with 6 located within the Dragons Region. These are: The Jesters, Belles, Chargers, Newts, Knights and Arrows. Please see further information below on each of the Girls hubs in the Region.
