The Newport Gwent Dragons and Gwent Police have combined forces in a unique partnership to promote community safety across the Region.
This is seen as a positive liaison between the partners who both strive to create a ‘Safer community.’ Many community safety messages relate to individuals who will also have an association with The Dragons. Many of the squad members are well known both locally and nationally and are excellent role models for the youth of today.
A Partnership between Gwent Police and The Dragons can only assist to get important safety messages to those who will greatly benefit from the advice. The Dragons are very keen to be involved in the community and to be connected with making the Region a safer area. The partnership with Gwent Police has provided an ideal situation for The Dragons to be actively supporting important and appropriate community initiatives across Gwent.
Chief Superintendent Kevin Price, Divisional Commander in Newport is extremely pleased to see The Dragons involved in community safety initiatives he said,’ Gwent Police are delighted to work with Newport Gwent Dragons in support of Community Safety. We strongly believe that rugby and other sports are beneficial to our youth, providing a healthy lifestyle, building self-esteem and developing team building, in addition to enhancing their sporting capabilities. In turn, these benefits reflect on their attitude and role within communities and research has proven that it saves many from a life of crime and disorder.’
The Dragons Commercial Director Gethin Jenkins said, ’We are delighted to have established a relationship with Gwent Police and look forward to helping them throughout the season on a range of issues that affect the community. The Dragons are very much part of the community and this partnership with Gwent Police can only help to further strengthen this.’
