The WRU Development Officers will be holding recruitment road shows around the region in August targeting clubs that struggle to recruit an U8s team and other gaps in age group rugby. The road show will visit clubs throughout The Dragons region with the aim to register new players as well as recruiting volunteers to help with the coaching/running of these age groups. As well as acting as player and volunteer recruitment it will also promote the new Dragons District rugby section and allow people to find out exactly what the role of the Development Officer is.
The road show starts on 14th August in Caerphilly and ends on 25th August in Newport. Two clubs per day in each county borough will be visited and is an ideal opportunity for youngsters and parents in the area to find out more about rugby and how they can get involved in a playing and volunteer capacity.
Dragons Community and Coach Development Manager Gerry Roberts commented, “This is the first year that we will be taking a road show around the region and the development officers were very keen to set this up. Every day a county borough will be visited and two clubs in that area will be targeted. The aim of the road show is two fold; to ensure we have ‘Fire in the Future’ through the recruitment of young players and also building on the ‘Valuing the Volunteer’ initiative we ran this year encouraging more volunteers into the game. We hope that by getting out into the region we can encourage more youngsters to take up rugby and thus benefit the game.”
