Newport Gwent Dragons secured their first home win of the season with a comprehensive 26-7 victory over Northampton Saints in the EDF Energy Cup competition.
The Dragons opened the scoring with a Ceri Sweeney penalty after nine minutes before wing Gareth Wyatt scored a sensational try with Sweeney adding the extras.
Sweeney put the home side further ahead after half an hour with another penalty before Northampton scored a first half injury time try through Mark Robinson with Robbie Kydd adding the conversion.
Sweeney's third penalty gave The Dragons a 16-7 half time lead.
Outstanding defence by the home side saw them keep a clean sheet in the second half and they built on their score through a Richard Fussell try who had come on as a replacement for Gareth Wyatt. A faultless kicking display by outside half Ceri Sweeney saw him add the conversion while Nathan Brew sealed the win with a drop goal deep in injury time.
