Newport Gwent Dragons narrowly lost 22-23 to the Llanelli Scarlets in the Welsh derby clash despite being 16-3 up at half time.
In another fine advert for the Magners League their was no shortage of commitment from The Dragons who were playing their second match in three days.
Fly half Ceri Sweeney gave The Dragons a 3-0 lead on ten minutes with a penalty while opposite number Stephen Jones replied with a penalty five minutes later.
Nathan Brew scored for the team on the half hour mark with captain Colin Charvis passing to Sweeney who found Brew with a cut out pass, he had a lot of work to do and sprinted in from 25m stretching for the try line when the Scarlets defence came across. Sweeney added the conversion from wide out.
Just before half time Sweeney slotted another penalty and a drop goal to give The Dragons the lead at the break.
The second half saw the Scarlets emerge fired up and three tries in six minutes to lead 16-20. Sweeney added two penalties on the 52nd and 65th minute to give The Dragons a two point lead before Stepehn Jones kicked one to give the narrow win to the visitors.
