Newport Gwent Dragons put on a tremendous performance as they ran out 17-11 winners over Guinness Premiership leaders Bristol to put them at the top of Pool 1.
The Dragons took an early lead when Gareth Wyatt capitalised on a Bristol error to score a converted try. David Hill slotted a penalty for the visitors before Sweeney replied with one. On the stroke of half time Hill made the score 10-6.
Bristol wing Lee Robinson scored a try early in the second half to give Bristol the lead for the first time in the game. Paul Emerick scored his first try in Dragons colours following a move which started in The Dragons own half. Sweeney added the conversion to give his side a deserved win following a tremendous effort from the forwards.
The Dragons now travel to Bayonne next weekend, but if they want to finish top of Pool 1 and secure a home quarterfinal in the Challenge Cup then they have to secure a bonus point win.
