Newport Gwent Dragons put their Magners League campaign back on track on the weekend when they defeated Ulster by 31 points to 11.

The Dragons secured their first win at home of the season and instrumental to the victory was the half back partnership between Wayne Evans and Ceri Sweeney.

Sweeney ended the night with a personal points tally of 16 – slotting four penalties and two conversions, one which was from the touchline.

Sweeney gave the home side an early lead when he kicked a penalty on four minutes and three minutes later Gareth Wyatt scored a try. Sweeney also added a further two penalties in the first half putting The Dragons 14-3 up at the break.

The Dragons pack were in tremendous form with Hugh Gustafson and Dan Lydiate really standing up to the fore. However, they were disrupted with injuries to the backline with Richard Mustoe and Gareth Maule both leaving at half time.

In the second half Niall O’Connor reduced the score to 14-6 with his second penalty before Sweeney replied with a penalty and then Rhodri Gomer Davies scored his first try in Dragons colours.

Ulster scored a try on the 59th minute to bring the score to 24-11 before Luke Charteris scored a converted try in the corner to seal the win for the home side.
