Dragons Team To Face Glasgow Warriors

Newport Gwent Dragons announce their team to face Glasgow Warriors at Firhill Arena on Friday 4 January, kick-off 7.30pm

Newport Gwent Dragons announce their team to face Glasgow Warriors at Firhill Arena on Friday 4 January, kick-off 7.30pm.

Head Coach Paul Turner has made little change to the side that achieved a League double over Welsh rivals the Scarlets on New Years Day.

“I’ve always said that winning breeds confidence and it’s great to be going up to Glasgow with momentum behind us from the Scarlets performance. It’s been a tough Christmas period and injuries haven’t helped, however, we travel with confidence in the side we have selected for this weekend,” said the Head Coach

“Having said that, Glasgow are a different team to previous seasons and with their current confidence from the European and Magners League they will be aiming to put one over us. They’ve brought in good players in informer All Black Daryl Gibson, Samoan international Lome Fa’atau and scrumhalf Chris O’Young,” Paul added.

Colin Charvis will captain the side for the second time this week. He commented:

“The win over the Scarlets was great for the team and we’re pleased to have been able to achieve that for our loyal supporters who’ve witnessed a difficult run of results. We now need to build on this momentum and turn the narrow loses we’ve experienced into victories.”

The Dragons were the last Welsh region to win in Glasgow, doing so 24-23 at Hughenden on 1 September 2006. The two sides have met on eight previous occasions, with Glasgow winning just once at home March 2004, 48-20.

Outside half, top-scorer Ceri Sweeney has contributed 34 Dragons points against Glasgow in previous League meetings.

“We’ve got a good record against Glasgow and I’m pleased that I’ve played a part in that over the seasons but Friday is a new week, a new game and the first time this season that we’ve played them. We don’t underestimate what they are capable of and know we have to work hard to come away with another good result,” added Ceri.

The team is as follows:

15 Kevin Morgan
14 Richard Fussell
13 Paul Emerick
12 Ashley Smith

10 Ceri Sweeney
