Dragons Secure Charvis at Rodney Parade
Newport Gwent Dragons are delighted to announce that Colin Charvis will remain with the region as contact and defence skills coach for the 2008/09 season, and will also be available to play for the Dragons if required.
The Dragons flanker, and Wales’ most-capped forward, has made 42 appearences for the Dragons since joining from Newcastle in 2006.
Colin’s experience and outstanding commitment, as always, will provide a huge boost for the region and gives Colin a chance to develop as a coach.
The 35-year-old, 94-times capped flanker returned to preseason training with the Dragons two weeks ago. Head Coach Paul Turner said:
“Colin has spent the past two weeks with the region on a temporary basis and it’s clear that he has great ideas about the game and the future at the Dragons.
“He has a huge knowledge of the game and a proven commitment to the Dragons region, since joining us from Newcastle in 2006.
“Colin has already passed a great deal of experience on to the players around him and everyone at the Dragons are excited about his decision to stay with the club.”
The latest addition to the coaching staff is pleased that the region lured him to back to the Dragons lair for another year. Colin said:
“I am really glad for the opportunity to work with the Dragons for another year. If I can help with some skills and contact area coaching, it is a great experience for me and a good opportunity to continue enjoying my time with the region, following two very happy years.
“There are some very good young players here and it would be great to pass on my experience of the past thirteen years to them.
“It’s very flattering that the management here have been so keen to hold on to me for another year and I hope that some hard work in the role that they have created will benefit the region.”
Ends.
