Newport Gwent Dragons have pledged their total support for regional
representatives Newport in next season's British and Irish Cup.
"We are delighted for Newport to get the opportunity to compete in this tournament, said Dragons Rugby Manager Robert Beale. "The British and Irish Cup is a new step for club rugby in Wales and as the region's sole representative next season, of course we all want Newport to do well.
In keeping with the relationships the Dragons have developed with all of the clubs in our region, we will look to support them in this new competition. Equally, the Cup provides the Dragons with an exciting opportunity to help develop and give valuable experience to some of our emerging talent.
"Clearly, if in the future there are more teams from the region involved in this competition, we will broaden our support to match what we have always provided for the Premiership.
"Regarding our other teams in the Premiership, we are proud of our record of support through granting permits and in particular, the professional attitude of the players we have provided. There are five teams in our region and Union records show that we have provided more players to the teams than other regions. We pledge that we will continue to support the teams when the players are available to do so."
