YOUR SKIPPER'S SHOUT - Gloucester HC

It’s not easy coming into today’s game with five losses behind us, but despite not getting the win at Glasgow, the performance was certainly better than in recent weeks.

It’s not easy coming into today’s game with five losses behind us, but despite not getting the win at Glasgow, the performance was certainly better than in recent weeks. We let ourselves down by starting poorly and that’s something we will be focussing on today – it’s far easier to build a positive performance on a good start rather than chase match down which is what we have found ourselves doing recently. Gloucester will obviously be riding high after beating a very confident Biarritz team last weekend. We certainly have a healthy respect for the Cherry and Whites after a very physical and close encounter in the first match back in October.
On the coaching front, we are all enjoying Colin’s coaching since he took over the role of Forwards Coach. He has a great deal of experience and a great knowledge base with us to share with us and I’m confident that he will do a great job of leading the forwards forward!
Thank you to everyone who has been bidding on the Sparkle charity shirts. There’s lots of banter about whose shirt would go for the most and there have been one or two surprises with Jason Tovey topping the bill and Hugh Gustafson doing very well – impressive except that we have been reliably informed that he has been bidding on his own shirt! Pat Palmer is another one who has been doing well but it turns out his girlfriend was securing it for his birthday this week!
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the team off the pitch. Adam Jones hit the big 30 last week and I’d just like to take this opportunity to welcome him to the dirty 30s club!
There have been a couple of hidden talents revealed recently. There was a lot of poker played whilst we were holed up in our hotel in Glasgow and it turns out we have one or two talented poker sharks in the squad in Luke Charteris and Steve Jones. There was also an impressively incompetent display from Jason Tovey. Not to be outdone, Grant Webb has just passed his guitar exam with an impressive 91% so if anyone sees him and wants a bit of entertainment in the clubhouse afterwards, I’m sure he’ll oblige!
Finally, Congratulations to Luke and Danny who have made the Welsh squad for the Six Nations. They are both really hard workers within the team and thoroughly deserve their selections, although we will obviously miss their presence here, I think the wallets of the poker players will be grateful for Luke being holed up in the Welsh camp!
Thanks for all your support!
