The Newport Gwent Dragons have confirmed that Gethin Jenkins, the region’s Chief Executive, will be leaving at the end of June to take up a new post outside of Rugby.
Mr Jenkins, who started as the Dragons Commercial Director and then later took over as the Chief Executive, has implemented an infrastructure that will enable the club to continue to grow and develop into the future.
The Chairman Martyn Hazell said on behalf of the Directors: “We would like to thank Gethin for his hard work and dedication to the Dragons and Newport RFC over the past six years. He has been part of an organisation that has developed strong foundations and grown along sustainable lines during that period. We are confident that we can build on this legacy and continue to grow especially as we hope to announce new development plans imminently.”
Gethin Jenkins said: “I would like to thank the directors for giving the me the opportunity to be part of the Dragons over the past six seasons and am proud to have been associated with the teams here at Rodney Parade. Thanks to the contribution of the directors, players, rugby management, staff and volunteers, we have successfully evolved from the early begins of regional rugby to lay a strong foundation. We now have a platform from which the teams can further grow. The performance and progress of the teams and the fantastic support this year is testament to this ongoing development.
“I would personally like to thank the players, rugby management and staff for their continued support during my time here and also to all the sponsors who backed the teams and continue to do so. Finally thanks to all the fans who have supported the teams here at Rodney Parade and myself especially during the times when things have not gone so well. I wish all associated with Rodney Parade and the Region every success for the future.”
The handover will continue throughout June to ensure that there is a smooth transition into the future.
