Last night (Wednesday 17th November), over 40 coaches from across the region attended the WRU Coaching Association night at Blackwood RFC with Darren Edwards.
The coaches were treated to an insight on how Darren and the other Dragons coaches are building a Dragons style of play and how their philosophy is designed to excite the imagination of the players.
After a brief video introduction, where coaches were given examples of how the Dragons style has materialised on the field in recent months, Darren delivered 60 minutes worth of activities and exercises that are designed at developing the offload. Using regional U16s 'A' team players, Darren challenged the thinking of the coaches and players and asked them to perfect skills and not moves.
The evening was organised by Mike Pusgley, WRU Coach Education Officer for the Dragons, who commented, 'it is great for a coach of Darren's calibre to come out and share his philosophy with the community. It is vital that coaches from across the region and from multiple backgrounds attend evenings like this so they can take the very latest techniques back to the players at their clubs. We run these evenings once a month throughout the season and it would be great to see attendance growing and more coaches benefitting from the knowledge shared by people like Darren.'
The next coaching association is on Wednesday 19th January, 7pm at Blackwood RFC.
