We are delighted to announce that this season The ‘Dragons Choir’ will be a permanent feature at all the Dragons home fixtures. The choir has been embraced by the region and we are sure you will enjoy their performances. These will take place in various areas around the Parade on match days; this will include some pitch appearances, in the club house, outside the ground or even on the famous terracing. Please support the choir in all their efforts and help maintain our unique atmosphere at Rodney Parade.
Cor y Dreigiau (The Dragons Choir) was formed from an idea in 2006 to re introduce singing on the rugby terraces. The choir took part in and won a competition against the Ospreys, Scarlets, and Blues regional choirs run by the television channel S4C to sing the Welsh National Anthem on the Millennium Stadium pitch before the Wales versus England 6 Nations match in March 2007.
A number of choir members decided to continue to run the choir after S4C’s involvement ended the result of which you see today. The choir has sung at various venues over the last four years and is available for weddings and concerts; they are singing on the 31st July at the opening of the Welsh Learner’s area of the 2010 National Eisteddfod to be held in Ebbw Vale.
The choir is always looking for new members; they sing in both Welsh and English, no previous choir music experience is necessary, and they welcome new members with all levels of ability. Rehearsals are held at the Newport Gwent Dragons club house at Rodney Parade, Newport on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
If you would like to join, or you know of someone who would like to join, please contact us at join@cordreigiau.co.uk or just come along to one of our rehearsals.
