It’s great to be back at Rodney Parade – our last game here was pretty momentous so we have a lot to live up to!
The boys would all like to thank everybody who has moved seats or stands for the game- it has been a long time coming but I hope this match makes the wait worth it!
It’s great to see Tom Willis back in the side. In addition to welcoming him back to fitness, I’d also like to welcome him to his midlife crisis. Clearly having a baby has wreaked havoc on his life and the boys are seriously considering an intervention before his hair and beard get any worse!
I’d also like to congratulate Steffan Jones on his first start for the Dragons. He certainly has the haircut to be a Welsh superstar (at rugby or in a teen pop group if that fails!) It is really important to the boys here to look after the new guys and make them feel welcome in the team so join us and get behind Steffan today.
Another shout out to Dave Watkins and the guys from Draggedup who are selling santa hats in aid of the Christchurch Appeal. Dave has done a lot this season behind the scenes with organising buses to away games and fundraising ideas. We all appreciate his efforts.
The boys are all delighted to be wearing the 737 Challenge shirts. I have to admit that when we were told that Parksy was designing them himself we were a little worried (his dress sense is a little bit special at times) but it’s reassuring to see that his sense of style has overruled his slightly camp sense of design.
To be honest, I don’t think many of us thought Richard would still be alive at this stage of his wacky adventure – when the original game was postponed, we were worried that we would be wearing the shirt in his memory – but it’s great to see that despite the fact that he is now so thin he could hide behind the posts, he has proven what a professional athlete he is and in all seriousness, he had a great deal of respect at Rodney Parade before he retired and he has even more now.
The shirts will be signed by us and auctioned off over the next few weeks by 737 Challenge to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. We will keep you posted with the details.
Enjoy the Match
