This season’s Junior Dragons members’ day, held on Tuesday 22 February, was a huge success.
Organised by the Community Department here at Rodney Parade, the Junior Dragons were treated to a full tour of the stadium. They enjoyed the famous changing room experience, including the inspiring motivational video starring club skipper Tom Willis.
Later in the day they met Tom himself for a talk about all things rugby related, as well as the chance to pose for photos with the Dragons captain.
The young supporters learned what goes on behind the scenes in the physio room, and met a clutch of star Dragons players, including outside half Jason Tovey, number eight Toby Faletau, scrum half Nicky Griffiths and back row James Thomas.
They were put through their paces in training sessions focussing on their running and handling skills. After chatting with Tom Willis in the historic Rodney Parade Trophy Room, the day concluded with a presentation of Dragons goodies.
The Junior Dragons have been invited to perform the Guard of Honour when the Dragons take on Benetton Treviso on the first weekend in April.
Community Manager Mike Sage said: “It was a really successful and enjoyable day for all involved, the members worked hard during the skills sessions and were excited to listen and learn about life behind the scenes at Rodney Parade. The icing on the cake was meeting star Dragons players and rubbing shoulders with New Zealand international and Dragons captain Tom Willis, who signed autographs and posed for individual photos with the members. We hope they’re all looking forward to being back here soon for the Treviso match!”
