The Dragons Academy are seeking individuals with an eye for players with rugby and athletic potential and with the spare time to dedicate to watching age grade rugby around the region.
During the second half of last season the Dragons Performance and Development Department ran a number of club and school district festivals which acted as a primary identifier for the 2011/12 season. In addition to this the department monitored player performance through the national school district tournament and a number of Combines throughout the year, which provided us with the most comprehensive talent identification system to date. However, every season a small number of players naturally slip through the net for various reasons who are capable of playing Regional Age Grade Rugby. The Dragons Academy plan to close off of as many of these holes as possible by establishing a formal scouting network.
Prospective Dragons Scouts will need to:
- Have an eye for players with athletic ability and / or rugby potential.
- Have the time to attend a minimum of two club or school matches per month from U15 through to Youth rugby.
- Report back objectively to the Performance Manager following each fixture.
- Meet as part of a Scouting group on a monthly basis to develop the concept going forward.
The Dragons Academy would be particularly interested in hearing from individuals who would be able to watch club and school fixtures in England to view specific Welsh Exile players.
The positions of Dragons Scouts are voluntary roles but each person will receive:
- Dragons branded clothing appropriate to the role.
- Tickets to Dragons fixtures.
- Hospitality with the Scouting Group for two Dragons fixtures per season.
If you are interested in becoming a Dragons Scout please email Will Thomas, Dragons Performance Manager, on wthomas@wru.co.uk with a brief outline of why you would be suited to the role.
