As if winning the Triple Crown and then the Grand Slam wasn’t enough, Dragons back row Dan Lydiate has added to the silverware by picking up the coveted RBS Six Nations Player of the Tournament Award.
The award was voted for by the public with the shortlist consisting of the players receiving Man of the Match awards through the tournament. Dan had firmly staked his claim by being nominated for his performances against both France and Scotland but the public vote cemented his place as the top player in Europe.
Danny was understandably delighted with the award, “I am really surprised to be honest. I am genuinely chuffed to bits.”
“It tops off an amazing competition for me and for Wales. To be part of such a talented Wales team and win the Grand Slam in Cardiff on Saturday was incredible in itself but to then be voted Player of the Tournament is absolutely unbelievable. ”
“It is a massive honour to win, especially given the quality of the other players up for the award. Thanks to everyone who voted for me, it means a lot.”
Dragons Head Coach Darren Edwards said “We are all immensely proud of Danny. His work ethic is outstanding and he puts 100% in for the team every match.
“His attitude epitomises what we are working hard to build at the Dragons and I am confident that there will be many more plaudits to come for this talented and dedicated young player.”
