USK CC v NEWPORT GWENT DRAGONS - CHARITY T20

This Sunday Newport Gwent Dragons regional rugby side will take on Monmoutshire’s newly crowned Twenty20 champions Usk Cricket Club in a charity cricket T20 match at the picturesque Usk ground.

The match will be sponsored by Newport based Premier Forest Products Ltd who are keen Dragon supporters and also love watching cricket. All proceeds from the game will go to Usk CC’s chosen charities Laurence Moon Bardot Beildle Society and St David’s Foundation Hospice Care.

Usk will be seeking revenge for the Dragons’ shock last ball victory last season which raised over £3000 for the two charities. The Dragons will again be captained by Pat Leach, a skillful cricketer himself, who has assembled a squad which will once again be looking for triumph after their win last year. The squad includes the likes of Adam Hughes, last years top scorer Jason Tovey and the player who hit a six to score the winning runs; Jonathan Evans.

Ahead of the match the Dragons’ Pat Leach said, “the boys are really keen to go out, give a decent showing and entertain the crowd. The pressure is on after winning last year and I know Usk CC will want to get their own back.”
“They are two great causes we are raising money for so make sure you come down and watch!” “As last year proves, I’m sure it’ll be a fun day for everyone involved.”

Usk Cricket Club Captain Huw Wilcox said ‘we are extremely grateful for The Dragons to be able to play us again and raise much needed money for our chosen charities, both of whom have given immeasurable personal support to several families at our club. Our T20 Macey Shield win on Sunday has set us up nicely to avenge last year’s defeat! I would like to thank Premier Forest Products for sponsoring the match which starts at 3pm

Usk’s talented juniors will be playing a junior game at 1pm as a warm up to the main event. There will be entertainment throughout the day, Food stalls including the now famous Ellie’s Cake’s stall, Bar and live music with local musician Mansell Davies into the evening.

A number of the Dragons rugby squad who aren’t involved in the playing side will also be there to support their side

Entry is £3 for adults and £1 for children (ALL proceeds to LMBBS & St David’s) and promises to be a great day out for the whole family.
