The Bargoed product started his career playing outside half at Bargoed youth; Jonathan moved to scrum half when coming through the Dragons Academy and also played for Pontypool RFC. He made 8 appearances in his first full season at the region, including 3 starts.
Since then Jonathan has played more and more fixtures each season. This season he has been involved in 18 fixtures starting in 12 of these.
On extending his contract for a further two years, taking him through to the 2014/15 season, Jonathan said,
"With injuries to both Joe Bedford and Wayne Evans at the start of the season, it gave me the opportunity to get the ball rolling early. Since then I have been given further opportunities to start and have grabbed them with both hands.
"I enjoy playing for the Dragons and thank them for giving us young players the opportunity to perform on a weekly basis.
"I look forward to another two seasons here at the Gwent based region.”
On discussing how important retaining young Welsh talent, like Jonathan is to the region, Director of Rugby Robert Beale said,
“We’re delighted that Jonathan has decided to extend his current contract at the Dragons. He’s a bright young prospect and we are looking forward to him playing over the next two years for our region.”
