Edinburgh v Newport Gwent Dragons Match Report

Newport Gwent Dragons one try, one penalty and one conversion were not enough to secure a win against hard hitting Edinburgh rugby this weekend.

The Men of Gwent travelled to BT Murrayfield with just one win under their belts, similarly to their opponents, in the hope of making it their second win in the Guinness PRO12 league.

The first half saw a strong start from the home side as they were inches away from scoring two tries, the first of which Edinburgh failed to ground after an awkward bounce and the second was held up by Nic Cudd and Matthew Pewtner.

Edinburgh led 6-0 in the first half with their points coming from two consecutive penalty kicks.

The Dragons came out firing in the first few minutes of the second half, as skipper Lee Byrne ran a great line into Andrew Coombs, who offloaded to Pewtner as the wing made it underneath the points.

But it didn’t last for long as Visser charged down Hallam Amos and managed to cross the white wash sending the home team into the lead. The home side didn’t stop there as Dougie Fife went on to cross the try line as well.

O’Brien chipped away with a penalty on the hour only for Heathcote to swiftly respond to earn a 24-10 lead that Edinburgh held onto.
