Dragons Charity Bike Ride 2017

Newport Gwent Dragons will team up with St David’s Hospice Care for the Dragons Charity Bike Ride 2017

The Dragons Charity Bike Ride 2017 follows on from the incredible success of the inaugural Dragons Charity Bike Ride last summer. The event, which took place on the 18th and 19th of June, raised over £12,000 for St David’s Hospice Care. In all 29 riders completed the weekend route visiting all four Welsh Regional Rugby Grounds.

Dragons CEO Stuart Davies said:

“We were delighted with what the Dragons Charity Bike Ride achieved in the summer. We were able to raise a significant amount of money for St David’s Hospice Care while bringing together rugby and non-rugby fans for a really enjoyable weekend of sporting and social activity.”

St David’s Hospice Care looks after 3,000 patients across the Dragons Region in their hospices, day care centres and at home. Money raised through Dragons Charity Bike Rides goes towards the ongoing running costs of the hospices. St David’s Deputy CEO, and former Wales Rugby International Adrian Hadley, added:

“It is a fantastic opportunity to once again be involved with the Dragons Charity Bike Ride in 2017. After last year’s success we not only raised vital funds but went on to create some great business relationships. We learnt a few lessons from last year and look forward to another great ride with some more great people.”

Following feedback from this year’s participants the Dragons Charity Bike Ride 2017 will present a longer and more challenging two days of riding. On Day 1 riders start from Pendine and travel to Swansea (67 miles) before an overnight stop at the Village Hotel, Swansea Marina. On Day 2 riders travel from Swansea to Rodney Parade (70 miles). Friends and family are encouraged to welcome riders back to Rodney Parade at the end of the ride on Saturday 17th June. The ‘Party at the Parade’ event will host a presentation, music, food and drink.

Former Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons Captain Jason Forster, who took part in the 2016 Ride, said:

“All riders really enjoyed the experience of doing the ride over two days in the summer. The overnight stop made for a really sociable occasion. We reflected on a hard day in the saddle while looking ahead to the challenge of the second day of riding.”
