Home grown talent Leon Brown has committed his future to the Dragons by signing a long-term contract.

This news comes the day after the 20-year old was named in the Wales Autumn International squad for the upcoming 2017 Under Armour series.

“I didn’t look elsewhere – I wanted to sign here and keep playing my rugby at my home Region,” said Brown.

He continued: “It’s good to sign and I am hoping to carry this form into next season and the season after.”

Brown has established himself in the Dragons first-team squad under Head Coach Bernard Jackman, and is flourishing under the new regime; I am really enjoying it, it’s great that Bernard has shown a bit of faith in me with selection and I love it!

“We are going in the right direction behind the scenes and this helps with the boys on the field. We don’t have to worry about anything, so we can just concentrate on getting better.

“We are making positive steps this season and as I look forward we are hoping to make a big impact.”

The tight-head prop burst onto the scene in 2012 when he played his first match for the Dragons U16s age grade side, after coming on as a replacement against the Ospreys U16s. Prior to this the Newport born player found his feet playing school rugby for St Joseph’s RC High School. He went on to become a regular starter for the U16s, whilst before moving onto the U18s and then to Principality Premiership side Cross Keys.

His early career has also seen him capped at International level with Wales U16s, U18s and U20s as well.

Looking back at his time with the academy and his pathway, Brown commented: “It’s great to look around and see those familiar faces from the academy – there are a fair few boys who have made the step up into the senior squad so James Chapron and the academy are doing things right!”

Dragons Head Coach, Bernard Jackman added: “I am delighted that Leon has agreed to sign a long term contract with the Dragons. He has come through our player development pathway and is a hard working honest young man.

“We want to reward our youngsters who we believe have talent and passion to represent the Dragons in a really positive light. So we were keen to re-negotiate his contract before his previous contract ran out with us.

“I look forward to working with him and our other coaches, in order to help him reach his potential.”
