"Fans were essential in Friday nights win" - Dee

Both Dragons players and staff have praised Friday night's crowd for their vocal support that aided the team to a win at Rodney Parade.

The Welsh Region saw themselves up against the 2015/16 Guinness PRO12 champions Connacht as they searched for that crucial win in front of a home crowd.

The victory saw Bernard Jackman's Dragons beat Connacht 21-8 with Elliot Dee putting in a Man of the Match performance, which saw him score from a close range and offload to Hallam Amos who crossed for the first try in under 2 minutes.

The 21-year-old commented; “On nights like that you feed off the fans, you hear them going wild in the stands and its sort of raises you that extra 10%.

“It's brilliant for us to get a win and see our hard work paying off.”

He continued; “We’ve spoken about protecting our house and Rodney Parade is our house and we want to be seen as protecting our fortress. When we play here it’s a family thing, it’s a group of boys putting their bodies on the line for each other. There’s no better feeling for me to get that win in front of our fans!”

Alongside Dee there were 10 other players who have made the jump from the academy to senior; Hallam Amos, Ashton Hewitt, Jack Dixon, Tyler Morgan, Angus O’Brien, James Benjamin, Ollie Griffiths, Harrison Keddie, Jared Rosser and Owain Leonard.

Dragons’ Backs Coach, Shaun Connor also praised the fans; “The crowd were outstanding similarly to the Leinster match. We didn’t give them much to shout about against Leinster, but the player’s passion and pride was probably inspired by the crowd.

“I thought that it just took us to another level and hopefully they will keep coming.”

The Dragons next home match is against South African team Southern Kings, which takes place on Saturday 30th September KO 19:35. Tickets are currently on sale for this match, just click here to buy yours.

Seasonal Members are also urged to redeem their Bring A Friend For Free vouchers for this match, which must be presented at the Ticket Office before matchday.
