The Dragons went down by four tries to two at Ebbw Vale in the first home Pro14 fixture to be held away from Rodney Parade for the Dragons. A crowd of over 4,000 turned up to watch the match.
"We’re really grateful to all those who came out to support us and it shows there’s a real appetite for top class professional rugby in this area," said David Buttress, Dragons Chairman.
"When you build anything you have to take risks and Edinburgh played well tonight so you have to give credit to them for getting the win, but I don’t think it mattered whether we had played at Rodney Parade or Eugene Cross Park for tonight’s result.
"If you look at the activation this last week or two in the build up to the game we were delighted with the level of people that turned out particularly since it was minus something and in the last week or two you’ve seen an amazing level of interest from supporters to attend Dragons events and get autographs, so there’s clearly a ton of appetite for the Dragons and we intend to give them something to cheer about in the coming years.
The atmosphere in the second half got going when we gave them something to cheer about scoring two tries and that’s normal. Next season we’ll definitely look at doing this again, perhaps at the start of the season and the crowd spoke for itself tonight in terms of the level of attendance. For me this is just the beginning and we’ve got a lot to do but we intend to do it. "
