Captain Hill calls for big Euro bid

Captain Cory Hill has called on Dragons to start the European Challenge Cup bid with a bang – as they prepare to jet out to Romania for the opening round of action.

Dragons face RCM Timisoara Saracens for the first time ever when the two sides meet in Western Romania on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 12.30 BST).

And Hill is eager for his team to hit the floor running and make a positive start to ensure Dragons enjoy a strong season in Europe.

“We want to go out there and get a five-pointer to start our Europe campaign with a bang,” he said.  “We’re then back here at Rodney Parade then for a good hit out with the Saints.

“We’ve had a good couple of runs in Europe of the last few years and the boys seem to really enjoy it with a good couple of trips away and we’ll take the Romania trip for what it is.

“We’ve been there before and the boys know what to expect so we’ll have a good trip and hopefully get a good win out there.”

Dragons also face Northampton Saints and Clermont in Pool 1 and Hill is excited by the challenge ahead.

It’s great to have those big clubs coming here to Rodney Parade, and we’ll get big crowds as it basically is a Champions Cup group, so we’ll have a good go at it and hopefully we can get through the group,” he added.

We’re in a Champions Cup group at the end of the day. Clermont are on fire and Northampton have made some cracking signings to strengthen their side as well, so it’s the biggest test we can have.

“We’ve spoken about getting into the Champions Cup and that’s our goal so it’s great we’ve got a Champions Cup group and we’ve got to go into it head first.”
