Jones Eager To Maintain High Standards

Interim Head Coach Ceri Jones admits he has some ‘tough decisions’ to make ahead of the derby clash with Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday (kick-off 5.15pm).

Dragons head to west Wales in confident and buoyant mood after a tense 23-22 victory over Ospreys in the final game of 2018 at Rodney Parade.

Jones will look at what side he selects as he bids to maintain the high standards of recent games despite a ‘bruising couple of weeks’.

He revealed Number Eight Ross Moriarty will again miss the game with concussion while back row Ollie Griffiths is now only a matter of weeks away from a potential comeback.

However, Jones admits he now has a fired-up and eager squad ready to show what they can do.

“We have a few tough decisions to make with the likes of Richard Hibbard, Lewis Evans, Nic Cudd, Tyler Morgan able to come in a do a huge job for us," said Jones.

“We’ve had a tough run of games, so we need to make sure that we are going into the game able to sustain that level of effort and performance.

“It’s been a bruising couple of weeks so we have had to manage a few bodies, but we are looking good.

“I will be challenging Barry (Maddocks) and the rest of the coaching team to look at their areas and who we can pick to do the best job against the Scarlets.”

On Moriarty, Jones added: “With concussion we will not rush it, player welfare always comes first and until Ross is able to pass those recovery protocols he won’t be considered.

“We will take our lead from the medics. As soon as Ross is available for selection believe me, we will think about selecting him.”

Dragons return to Rodney Parade on Friday, January 11 when we face Timisoara Saracens in the European Challenge Cup. Visit the Ticket Office to buy your ticket or click HERE to buy online.
