Fly half Sam Davies has spoken about his excitement over his move to Dragons after agreeing a two-year deal at Rodney Parade.
Wales international Davies, who has won eight caps for his country, will link-up with his new team-mates for the first time next month for pre-season.
And the 25-year-old – who scored 836 points in 150 games for Ospreys – has revealed how the vision of Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan and a commitment to Welsh Rugby made him decide to make the summer switch.
“I’ve taken my time to carefully consider the different options for my future rugby career and this move is one I am excited about,” said Davies, who led the way in the Guinness PRO14 marksmen charts during the 2018/19 season with 148 points.
“Staying in Wales and a commitment to Welsh Rugby was a key part of that decision, as I still have ambitions to play for my country and that will continue to be a focus and help drive me forward.
“I want to compete and play at the highest level and I’m hopeful with a new Wales coaching set-up, that I will get an opportunity again in the future if I’m playing at the top of my game.
“It’s been a tough decision to move from the Ospreys which has been my region since I started playing rugby with many great memories and I feel privileged and proud to have represented the Ospreys for ten years.
“I was impressed when I met Dean Ryan and speaking to him about the pivotal role he wants me to play at Dragons. He clearly knows his rugby and has a lot of experience to bring into the environment. It’s exciting to have discussed the direction and vision for Dragons rugby going forward.
“I’m going to be joining a good group of players in a positive rugby environment with first-class training facilities at Ystrad Mynach.
“I know about the great atmosphere and vocal support at Rodney Parade from the many derbies I’ve played there and it will be good to experience that from a ‘home’ perspective at the first game of the new season.”
