Williams targets right response

01/11/2019

Captain Rhodri Williams admitted Dragons would be working hard on the training field to put things right after defeat to champions Leinster in Dublin on Friday evening.

Dragons fell to a 50-15 loss at the RDS Arena as Leinster pulled clear in a five-try second half.

Williams gave his team credit for battling until the end, which saw them rewarded with a try for Owen Jenkins to add to a first half score from Jordan Williams.

But he acknowledged lessons had to be learnt and Dragons needed to build pressure in the second half when the game got loose and away from them.

“In fairness to Leinster, they played well and when we made any mistakes they punished us,” said Williams.

“We’ve got to learn the lessons, dust ourselves off and look to get better next week against Edinburgh.

“Unforced errors hurt us, and some offloads didn’t go to hand. We needed to build phases in the second half and build pressure.

“That is what they did, they built pressure on us and capitalised on that.

“We kept going, but we’ve got to learn from the negatives in that game and where it got away from us.

“Credit to the boys for getting that late try, but now it is about getting better,” he added.

“That is the thing with rugby, we go again next week and hopefully a full-on week of training can show we can learn from these mistakes and put it right.”

Dragons are next in action on home soil on Saturday, November 16 when they face Castres in the European Challenge Cup at Rodney Parade. Click HERE to buy online and enjoy Early Bird discounted prices!
