WTD set for spell on sidelines

07/01/2020

Full back Will Talbot-Davies is set for a spell on the sidelines after the region confirmed he dislocated his wrist in the Guinness PRO14 victory over Ospreys.

Talbot-Davies, 22, was forced off in the second half of the league clash at Rodney Parade.

The Solihull-born back – who has played 25 games for Dragons in all competitions – will now miss this weekend’s clash with Castres Olympique in France as his injury is assessed.

“It’s unfortunate because Will had been playing really well,” said Backs Coach Barry Maddocks.

“He stepped up strongly with Jordan (Williams) out and it will be a loss because of the form he was in.”

Dragons will now look at back three options before Saturday’s showdown at Stade Pierre-Fabre.

“Jacob did pretty well when he came on (against the Ospreys) while we have got another youngster in Carwyn Penny who could be in the mix (at full-back),” added Maddocks.

“Rio (Dyer) has been in the mix and training with us for the last couple of years, he made his PRO14 debut before and did exceptionally well on the weekend.

“What he has got is sheer pace, is a strong runner and is a good listener who wants to get better.”

Meanwhile, Cory Hill and Ashton Hewitt are available for selection this weekend.
