Dragons & Compeed supporting local NHS

26/06/2020

Staff from Dragons teamed up with blister plaster experts Compeed to make a special delivery to the Royal Gwent Hospital in support of our fantastic NHS.

Compeed is the Official First Aid Partner of the Dragons, with pride of place on first team jerseys and shorts and Rodney Parade transformed thanks to the Compeed Stand and Compeed Terrace.

Compeed has also been investing heavily in our community work – and that was underlined recently as we joined forces to make a delivery to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB).

Members of the Dragons Community team visited the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport to deliver over 6,000 protective plasters that has been kindly donated by Compeed.

The plasters will be used to help defend and protect the skin of NHS staff who face skin irritation due to spending long periods of time wearing face masks while working on the front line.

“Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are extremely grateful to Compeed and Dragons for the donation of 6,000 Compeed plasters for use by ABUHB staff,” said a spokesperson.

“Spending long periods of time wearing face masks can cause irritation to skin. These protective plasters will help defend the skin of our clinical teams especially in areas such as Critical Care, Emergency Departments and Respiratory Wards in all our Hospitals.

“This donation is very much appreciated to support the care of our staff.”

Dragons have been busy across Gwent during the COVID-19 lockdown with the ‘Dragons Deliver’ scheme.

Rodney Parade also continues to play a key role in the fight against Coronavirus with ABUHB using the venue as a testing facility.

Mike Sage, Community Manager at Dragons who led the delivery, said: “We have looked to support our local community throughout the pandemic with ‘Dragons Deliver’ helping the vulnerable and those most in need.

“We have strong ties with the local NHS so it was fantastic that Compeed were able to support this work with such a kind donation to those working hard for us all on the front line.”

Speaking about the donation, Compeed's Clare Newins, Marketing Manager for UK, Ireland & Nordics, said: "As soon as we heard that frontline NHS workers were regularly using Compeed products to assist them through long shifts during the fight against Covid-19, we were very keen to help.

"With an incredible track-record working with the local community, we knew that Dragons would be able to help us get our plasters into the hands of those who need them most. They did so with amazing efficiency.

“A huge thank you to all those involved and to the NHS for their incredible efforts during these difficult times."

Jonathan Westwood, Commercial Director at Dragons, thanked Compeed for the generous donation and the continuation of the strong relationship with Dragons.

“We’ve really enjoyed working closely with Compeed this season and this donation is yet another example of the fantastic support they have given the region and our community work,” he said.

“Compeed, as our Official First Aid Partner, are a valued part of the Dragons family and we look forward to working closely with them on more significant and important projects for many years to come.”
