Lock Matthew Screech and fly half Sam Davies took home the top prizes in the region’s end-of-season awards.
In an awards night for the squad held via Zoom, it was second row Screech – who played more minutes than any other player in the Guinness PRO14 this season – who was named the Coaches’ Player of the Season award.
Voted for by the coaching team at Dragons, the award goes to the player who often goes unseen but who is integral to the group. After winning the PRO14 IronMan Award this season, Screech added another gong, with recognition by way of nominations also to Adam Warren and Joe Davies for this campaign.
Playmaker Davies, who has clocked up an impressive 154 points so far in his debut season, was named the Ed Jackson Players’ Player of the Year, edging out Rhodri Williams and Taine Basham in the vote by the squad.
It was an award double for Davies who was named the Supporters’ Player of the Season by the Dragons Official Supporters Club.
Talented back row Basham was named Young Player of the Season, in an award also voted for by the coaching team at Dragons.
The Clubman of the Year Award was jointly won by Kit Manager duo Chris Garrett and Paul Taylor. Finally, the Phil James Community Award went to Community Inclusion Officer Gareth Sullivan. Gareth leads on Inclusion Rugby at the region under the ‘Jersey For All’ banner to make rugby accessible to all and his outstanding work over the last 12 months was rightly recognised.
