Primary Schools across our region – who are part of the Tony Brown Gateway Rugby project – are set to battle it out in a new online cup competition!
The Gateway Rugby scheme is our flagship primary school initiative run by Dragons Community that inspires schoolchildren across the region.
It was recently renamed the ‘Tony Brown Gateway Rugby’ project, as part of Dragons Community’s 20th anniversary celebrations and association with Bisley.
Schoolchildren enjoy learning generic sporting skills, team building activities and small sided games during hour-long sessions.
The aim is for the pupils to become more skilful, learning important life skills through sport and ultimately enjoying the experience whilst looking after their health and wellbeing.
Schools involved in the project can now also look forward to some online fun with a new cup competition launching next week.
The new Tony Brown Gateway Rugby Virtual Cup, in association with Community partners Melin Homes and Tata Steel, will see 44 schools all compete in online voting!
The first draw took place today with a preliminary round seeing 24 schools battle it out over three days next week.
Supporters, families and local communities can all get involved with the polling on the Dragons Community twitter account – @DRA_Community
Mike Sage, Community Manager at Dragons, said: “Our recent clubs virtual cup was a massive success and we are hoping to emulate this through our Gateway Schools.
“A massive thanks to our long-term community partners, Melin Homes & Tata Steel for supporting our community activation & schools initiatives.
“Normally, we would be running tag festivals for our schools but with restrictions on mass gatherings, it is hoped that this will provide an element of competition and encourage engagement throughout our schools and local communities. Best of luck to all our schools."
