We are proud to have established and seen first-hand the positive impact of our Sporting Memories provision at Rodney Parade, which uses the power of sport to engage with people living with dementia, depression or are socially isolated.
To widen our community reach and provide further opportunities around our region, we are delighted to officially announce our growth with two new venues added to our Inclusion calendar and hosted at Cwmbran RFC and Risca RFC.
Once fully established, our ambition will be to set up new opportunities to reach across each authority in our region.
- Rodney Parade – Wednesdays – 11.15am to 1.15pm weekly
- Cwmbran RFC – Tuesdays – 11.15am to 1.15pm weekly
- Risca RFC – Thursdays – 11.15am to 1.15pm weekly
Both Ian at Cwmbran and Colin at Risca have been amazing in creating these new opportunities and share our inclusion ethos and passion to engage with the local community.
Our Inclusion Officer, Karen Burgess is the lead of our Sporting Memories activation and is really looking forward to supporting both Ian and Colin in making both rugby clubs a thriving and inspiring environment for people to attend.
The growth has been a natural progression given its early success at Rodney Parade and we are thankful to Sporting Memories, Centerprise International and our volunteers, who provide the resources to be able to drive this development.
Sporting Memories Wales work with communities and organisations to promote the mental and physical wellbeing of people over 50.
As well as reminiscing about sport and allowing group members to tell their stories through sporting memories, the clubs include exercise and the playing of accessible sports to increase physical activity levels of beneficiaries.
New friendships are formed with members gaining confidence to meet new friends and make meaningful connections not just within the clubs but in the wider community too.
