St David, the patron saint of Wales, is celebrated annually on the 1 March – and our mascot Rodney the Dragon celebrated the big day in style… by becoming a Guinness World Record holder!
Despite Wales' national lockdown disrupting the traditional celebrations, Welsh language television channel S4C made sure that was still a memorable day... ...by facilitating a whole load of record-breaking!
Each record again celebrated a unique aspect of Welsh tradition or culture and ten records were broken in celebration of the day!
Mascots from across Wales attempted three records:
- Fastest 100 m by a mascot
- Most consecutive football (soccer) touches by a mascot
- Most rugby ball touches with the feet by a mascot in one minute
The mascots vying for one of these records were Cochyn (Scarlets), Ozzie (Ospreys), Rodney the Dragon (Dragons), Bartley Bluebird (Cardiff City F.C.) and Cyril the Swan (Swansea F.C.).
Unfortunately, all the mascots fell short of achieving the first two records – but one very talented red mascot managed to break the final record!
Rodney the Dragon smashed the most rugby ball touches with the feet by a mascot in one minute - achieving 24 touches and total bragging rights amongst his mascot peers!
Well done Rodney!
