Dragons are delighted to announce that star wing Ashton Hewitt has signed a new long-term contract with the region.
Homegrown ace Hewitt – earlier today named the Guinness PRO14 Ironman for most minutes played in the competition - is one of the most potent finishers in the domestic game with his electric pace and powerful running.
The 26-year-old has become a key senior figure at Dragons since making his regional debut in 2013.
The Newport-born wideman has gone on to make over a century of appearances for the Men of Gwent and has scored an impressive 31 tries, placing him third in the region’s the all-time try scorer charts.
Director of Dragons Rugby, Dean Ryan, said: “Ashton is a real talent and someone who is clearly very passionate about playing for his home region and helping us achieve success.
“He’s been in fantastic form this season and has big ambitions to play at the highest level. Ashton wants to achieve those as a Dragon and so we’re delighted he will be staying with us.”
Hewitt said: “It’s great to re-sign with the group of players we have here and the coaching team we’ve got. I’m proud to be here and excited about the future.
“We’ve such a strong squad now and you can see performances improving. It’s really encouraging as we look to progress and move forward.
“I’m enjoying my rugby at Dragons and feel I can achieve all my goals here. It’s the right environment for me.
“I’m now focussed on getting even better and I’m also really looking forward to fans coming home to Rodney Parade.
“They have been fantastic supporting us from afar this season, but it makes such a difference when they are with us on match days. We all look forward to that day when they are back.”
