Dragons RFC and Newport County AFC are aware of the challenges of the cost of living crisis and will be joining forces over the winter months to help those that may need support the most.
The two clubs value the fantastic support they are given by the community and wish to return this support as part of the EFL’s ‘Together – Supporting Communities’ initiative to support communities and fans of the 72 League Clubs during the cost-of-living crisis.
The scheme will see EFL Clubs provide community services and matchday offers to help people in challenging economic times and will contribute to the Government’s ‘Help for Households’ project.
In the run-up to Christmas, both clubs will collaborate to support the Newport Foodbank and will welcome supporters to drop off food donations at the FanZone Marquee at all our home fixtures over the winter period.
We are specifically asking for:
- Soup
- Tomatoes/Pasta Sauce
- Meat
- Tinned Fruit
- Rice/Noodles
- Small Jars of Coffee
- Milk UHT
- Jam
- Toiletries
Newport County AFC supporter, Jim Drewett, has been raising money for Newport Foodbank and has taken part with the club in collections and deliveries for the past couple of years and is hoping for a great response from all supporters this year to help those who need it the most in these challenging times – let’s try and make this winter one to remember for positive reasons.
Both clubs will also help supporters that need help with their shopping and will also provide a bucket collection at the Newport County AFC v Doncaster Rovers fixture on December 10 for supporters to donate any pennies and pounds to help those in our own community.
The clubs have also strengthened their bond hosting World Cup supporter Fan Zones and also welcomed over 1,000 schoolchildren to Rodney Parade hosting them and allowing them to watch the World Cup fixtures in a fun and safe environment.
Furthermore, Dragons RFC, Newport County, and Newport Foodbank will be giving the opportunity for some of those who need help to attend home fixtures.
