Belief growing in pack of forwards

09/10/2022

Forwards Coach Luke Narraway believes the pack at Dragons RFC will only get better this season – with belief now growing after early season signs of progress.

The forwards have gone toe-to-toe on home soil with Munster and Cell C Sharks - who had given Dragons a difficult time at the set piece in Durban last season.

Narraway has been pleased by the way the forwards have operated as a pack and insists the only way is up.

“We are pretty happy with where the pack is - but we can get better,” he stated.

“The summer signings have elevated us to a different level through competition in training.

“There is more belief now. Our lineout defence aerially has gone well this year. I think we've had nine steals so far.

“Credit to the players,” he added. “They put a lot of hard work in, in front of the computers and out on the field. They get a little bit more belief, a little bit more confidence with that.

“With our lineout attack, it was great to go over with Elliot Dee’s try against a heavy pack (Sharks).

“We've got a little bit belief; we know where we can get better still and it’s about making sure that we can lay the foundations for the back line to play.

“I think every Dragons team in the past has always had a really nitty gritty pack up front and that's something that we're working towards.”

We know where we can get better still and it’s about making sure that we can lay the foundations for the back line to play...
