Cross wants to maintain home form

27/10/2022

Defence Coach Simon Cross has urged Dragons to maintain their home form and take the opportunity to impress when they face Zebre Parma on Saturday night (kick-off 5.15pm).

The Men of Gwent welcome the Italians to Newport in the Round 7 of the BKT United Rugby Championship hunting successive home wins after Sunday's derby day success over the Ospreys.

Dragons will be without loosehead Rhodri Jones, hooker Bradley Roberts, locks Will Rowlands and Ben Carter, and wing Rio Dyer are with Wales for the autumn series.

But Cross is excited to see those players who step up as Dragons look to finish the first block of league games on a real high.

“The Welsh boys have been brilliant, but the squad has actually been brilliant,” said Cross.

“Dai (Flanagan) has rotated quite a few players over the course of the last four or five games and we have people who are match-fit, who have played decent chunks of games and have won games.

“I am excited that some of these boys are going to get more of an opportunity this weekend. I think we will see some big performance from these boys.

“Will Rowlands has led by example, he is absolutely world class at the moment, but Ben Carter was also outstanding against the Ospreys. I felt they were the two best second rows on the pitch,” added Cross.

“But this gives opportunities for others to stake a claim and the competition in training has been outstanding.

“We had a really good training session on Thursday and we are excited about trying to back up last week's result.”
