Centre Steff Hughes spoke to Dragons TV as he reflected on his debut in the BKT United Rugby Championship defeat to Benetton Rugby In Italy.
“To be fair to Benetton, they were really physical early doors. They set the intensity of the game and we just didn’t quite stick with that," he said.
“They kept it simple, kicked really well and did the basics. We probably didn’t deal with that as well as we could, so I think we can learn from them in terms of how they went at that first 20 minutes. They controlled the territory and the set-piece.
“We played with a little bit more tempo in the second half and tried to move the ball and it suited us. It was obviously nice to score a try on my first game.
“We have got a lot of little things to work on and we are obviously looking forward to going to Cardiff next weekend. They had a good win against the Scarlets on Saturday.
“There is a lot of good and growth in this group and that’s exciting moving forward. We just need to make sure we nail our basics early doors, be physical and win the aerial battle.”
