Dragons RFC scrum half Gonzalo Bertranou grabbed a first half try but it was South Africa that beat a spirited Argentina in Durban.
The 38-21 result saw the Springboks fell well short of the landslide victory needed to snatch the Rugby Championship from New Zealand.
The Springboks' forward power delivered scores for Jasper Wiese and Siya Kolisi, but Argentina kept in touch.
Bertranou and Juan Martin Gonzalez scored either side of the break and, as the rain fell, South Africa's title hopes were dashed.
The Dragons No.9 will now travel back to Wales to link up with the club. Safe travels, Gonzalo!
