Dynamic Roberts sets high standards

29/09/2022

Hooker Bradley Roberts has vowed there is more to come from him after his barnstorming start to life at Dragons RFC.

The Wales international moved from Ulster in the summer and has quickly settled into life at Dragons RFC.

The 26-year-old – who previously spent a season with RGC in the Welsh Premiership – was at his eye-catching best against Munster with one 30-metre charge roared on by the Rodney Parade crowd.

Roberts has already clocked up an impressive 33 tackles in the first two games - topping the BKT United Rugby Championship tackle charts.

However, he insists there is much more to come from both him and the Dragons as the season continues to gather momentum.

“There's a lot more to come from me, I haven't really had as many opportunities with ball in hand as I'd like,” he said.

“I've been very active in defence, but I want to be getting the ball a bit more often, especially in a bit of space.

“That's where I think I come into my own. I haven't carried as much as I'd like but that will come when everyone starts gelling and we find our structure to play more attacking rugby.

“It was definitely a very exciting day for us all against Munster,” he added.

“We were bitterly disappointed after Edinburgh and wanted to bounce back because we know what we have got in the squad.

“We didn’t do ourselves justice and wanted to prove to ourselves and everyone else what we are about. I think we did that well.”

Next up is Cell C Sharks on Saturday evening (kick-off 7.35pm) - a club that Roberts knows well after representing them at age grade level.

But the Durban-born front row insists his focus is purely on Dragons and not former acquaintances.

“I missed out on playing against them for Ulster last season, so I am looking forward to getting stuck into them,” he admitted.

“Physicality has been a big focus over the last few weeks.

“We outmuscled Munster, which is hard to do, and that was with them having their big guns.

“It was testament to what we are capable of and it's just the standard we need week in, week out.

“You need to win the physical battle if you want to win the game, that's the bottom line.”
