Condy reflects on positive Under-18s block

17/02/2023

Dragons Under-18s Head Coach Jack Condy praised his squad for the way in which they have developed this season - as they wrapped up the Regional Age Grade Championship campaign with a 19-15 victory over Cardiff.

Number Eight Ryan Jones struck with just minutes remaining at Cardiff Arms Park to add to first half scores from wing Dray Jack-Griffin and full back Harri Ford.

The young Dragons also had to dig deep late on to keep the home side out before securing a victory that Condy felt was fully deserved.

“I thought the boys were excellent,” he said. “We started off slow, which is often the case down in Cardiff, but we reacted well at half-time. “The second half we had lots of energy to finish the block off.

“We needed to tidy up our contact area a little bit, they were affecting our speed of ball, but we did that so we could play on the front foot.

“We’ve worked all block about building togetherness and family feel and that showed at the end.

“It says a lot about a team the way they defend, and the boys did that excellently.

“It’s been challenging, it has been intense,” said Condy, as he looked back at the last few months of action.

“There have been a lot of games, some recovery and not as much training as would like, but it has been good, and we finished on a high.

“It’s exactly what the boys deserved after missing out in a couple of games at the start of the block.

“We’ll give the boys reviews now and talk about their next steps,” he added.

“A lot of boys will go back to play for their clubs now, and they have been a massive help to us and have sacrificed a lot over the last few months.

“It is a massive thank you to all the clubs who have given up their time and developed these players also.”
