Coach praise for Coghlan progress

12/01/2023

Forwards Coach Luke Narraway has praised the ‘fantastic’ development of young hooker Brodie Coghlan this season.

Coghlan, who turned 22 in December, has been named as back-up to Bradley Roberts over the last month, with Wales international Elliot Dee ruled out through injury.

The front row – who last week came up against Springboks legend Bismarck du Plessis – has caught the eye with his set piece and work-rate around the field.

And Narraway believes playing time with RGC and Newport in the Premiership has been crucial to the hooker’s progress.

“Brodie has been absolutely fantastic. His development in the last 18 months is probably one of the fastest growth spurts that I have ever seen,” said Forwards Coach.

“What an experience for Brodie to play and scrummage against one of the best that has done it last week.

“He went up to RGC, played a lot of games and really impressed. He has come back, and his attitude has been fantastic and this experience is invaluable for young front rowers,” he added.

“We all know that it takes longer for front rowers, it’s the nature of the beast, but it's just important that we keep developing these guys. They will come good consistently.

“We’re about developing young Gwent players that hopefully can go on and have good regional careers and can play for Wales."
