Captain Ryan Woodman has called on Wales Under-20s to now produce a complete performance against Japan – after showing glimpses as they pushed New Zealand all the way.
Wales face Japan on Thursday at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stallenbosch (kick-off 1pm UK, Live S4C) as they look to secure a first win in the World Rugby Championship in South Africa.
Head Coach Mark Jones and his team will be looking to bounce back after their epic battle against New Zealand on Saturday in Paarl where the Baby Blacks squeezed home by a single point in the opening Pool A encounter.
And Dragons RFC ace Woodman is keen to take positives and work-ons from an enthralling opening clash in the tournament.
“The first half showed where we are and that is the team we are. We just let it off the start of the second half,” he said.
“We came out and gave away too many penalties, which was always our problem in the Six Nations, and discipline hurt us.
“There were lots of positives and loads to improve on,” he added. “We left lots of points on the field and that is not the best we can be.
“The two points could be crucial. If we stay together as a team, improve on what we did first time out and beat Japan and France, which I feel we can do, it is all to play for.
“We’ve worked hard these last few weeks. Mark (Jones) has come in and brought lots of energy and it shows.
“There are still glimpses of the Six Nations that we need to get out of the system, but now it is about we digging deep and grinding to get these wins that we can get.”
