Dragons prepare for ‘Huwipulotu’ challenge

29/03/2023

Dai Flanagan acknowledges Dragons will have to be at their best to contain the newly crowned best midfield partnership in Europe when they come up against ‘Huwipulotu’ in Glasgow.

Scottish pair Huw Jones and Sione Tuipulotu are set to return for Warriors when the Men of Gwent travel to Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off 5.30pm).

Their standing in the game was underlined this week when they were named in the Six Nations team of the tournament.

And Head Coach Flanagan is aware of the size of the challenge and has spoken about his admiration for the pair after meeting with Sione recently north of the border.

“I think they have built such a connection as a partnership,” he admitted.

“I was fortunate enough to spend a bit of time with Sione when I went up to meet some of the Scottish coaches recently and what a champion of a human he is.

“He is super impressive, and he loves his NFL like I love my NFL. We had a little conversation about his 49ers and my New York Giants!

“Sione can do it all. He can kick on the run, he can pass, he can carry.

“It’s important we take time away from him this weekend and make him make decisions that will be tough for him.

“They are a partnership that have played a lot together, which helps, and they have built up a lot of trust.”
