Dragons RFC and Swansea University collaborate to provide VR unit to its Esports Community.
Dragons RFC and Swansea University have partnered to provide a Meta Quest 2 Standalone Virtual Reality Headset to its winner of their recent Fifa 23 Tournament.
As the Dragons continue to build their Esports portfolio, the link up with Owen Guy and his team at Swansea, resulted in the VR unit being shipped to the winner in St Etienne, France.
Dan Nicholls, Commercial Manager at Dragons RFC, said “To be able to engage with a whole new community and fan base via gaming and Esports, has been one of the most exciting developments of our Esports journey.
“The industry is growing at an unbelievable pace and we are pleased that Owen and his team supported us by kindly donating the VR headset to our deserving winner.”
Professor Owen Guy, from the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, said: “The VR game is a fantastic way of engaging with people of all ages and demystifying the amazing semiconductor technologies that power everything from our smartphones to electric vehicles and satellites.
“It will also signpost the growing career opportunities in the expanding semiconductor industry in South Wales. The collaboration has also seen the University to work with regional rugby team Dragons RFC by providing a VR headset, loaded with the Learn Lithography app, for the winner of its highly successful eSports competition.”
