Head Coach Dai Flanagan has revealed Wales international Aaron Wainwright could feature in the BKT United Rugby Championship derby with Ospreys at Rodney Parade this Saturday evening (kick-off 5.15pm).
Wainwright came off in the league defeat to Leinster last weekend, amid fears he would miss the derby before the South African tour.
However, Flanagan confirmed the all-action 26-year-old could now be in the selection mix for Saturday’s home showdown.
“There was no HIA with Aaron, which is the good news,” said Flanagan.
“He’s fine and he’s training so, if selected, he is available to play.
“Aaron has passed all the tests and been cleared by two doctors and there was no HIA. Initially there was some confusion but he is available for selection if needed.”
One player who will miss the derby is wing Jared Rosser who Flanagan has confirmed will be given an extended break from the game after two concussions.
“Jared has had a second concussion in three weeks, and you know what happens there,” said the Head Coach.
“He will have some clear time away from the game now.
“We’ve had a few concussions, and a lot has been injuring ourselves,” he added.
“Matthew Screech took Jared out on the weekend and Lloyd Fairbrother took Sean Lonsdale out. We’ve had some unfortunate luck with the concussions.
“That is the modern game as well. The rules have been changed to protect the players, which is great, and we’re switched on with identifying it during the game.
“These boys they come back better and stronger after some breaks.“
