Captain Dan Lydiate admitted his team lacked the consistency to get a result in Italy against Benetton Rugby – and challenged Dragons to show immediate improvement with Connacht looming large.
Dai Flanagan’s men lost 36-19 in Treviso as they battled back from a difficult first half to score tries through Jared Rosser, Dane Blacker and Che Hope.
But they left empty-handed and now turn their attention to home soil and a clash with Connacht Rugby in the BKT United Rugby Championship this Saturday night (kick-off 8pm).
“We weren’t consistent enough in our performance,” conceded Lydiate, who led the team in Italy.
“Credit to Benetton, we know they are a tough team and we gifted them a couple of tries with an intercept and a charge down in the second half.
“You take them out of the equation, and it would have been a closer game.
“They started a lot stronger than us in the first half and second half I felt the replacements made a good impact and we fought our way back into the game.
“We just need to be more consistent because if you are not against a good side like Benetton then it is a tough place to come and get a result. Now all the focus is on Connacht and being much better.”
