Thank you to schools colleges and clubs

08/02/2024

A huge thank you to all the clubs and schools/colleges across our region who have supported the Dragons Men and Women Under-18s programmes this season.

Both squads have now completed fixtures and return to playing for their local teams in the coming months.

Lewis Roberts, Interim Academy Manager at Dragons RFC, said: “A huge thank you to both squads for their efforts and dedication through this latest Regional Age Grade programme.

“We also pay tribute and thanks to all the clubs, schools and colleges who continue to work closely with us to help us give opportunities and development to the next generation of talent right across our region.”

Adam Thomas, Dragons Men Under-18s Head Coach, believes his squad has learnt a lot throughout this season.

“Training has been good, but they now have that experience and exposure at Under-18 level and a young group will only be better for it next year,” he said.

“It has been a big learning curve, some will not have realised the step up from school or college rugby, so it’s been good for them. We are a young group so over the next 18 months we will be better.

“Hopefully some of the players will have put their hands up for Wales Under-18s and the rest will go back to schools, colleges and clubs and get valuable game time.”

Cerys Hale, Dragons Women Pathway Lead, is excited about the work ahead for a young group of Dragons.

“It’s been a successful block and we have built with every week,” she stated.

“We’ve got a young squad, which is exciting. We have one year, and in some cases two years, to work with these players. They are all keen to learn and develop.

“Wales Under-18 selection is coming, so hopefully we will have some good involvement in that.

“They now go back to clubs and the likes of Coleg Gwent, who have some crucial fixtures to come. They will have opportunities to keep playing and developing, and we will come back together in the summer for another block of work.”
